Mama
Mia, it's the Open Kitchen! This is the oldest restaurant
in Charlotte and still offers the feeling of "at home"
atmosphere, as well as delicious cuisine.
The
menu is a challenge as it covers two long pages of edibles
and is very in-depth. You can order everything from Crabmeat
Parmigiana to submarine sandwiches; however, I must admit
that their pizza is my favorite.
Service
is excellent and any day that you want to have your spirits
lifted as well as delicious Italian to enjoy, treat yourself
to a visit at the Open Kitchen.

The
Open Kitchen still delivers quality food in an atmosphere
that would prompt any adult to reminisce about college and
high school days.
If
you are in the mood for fine food and a colorful, unpretentious
atmosphere, then do yourself a favor and head for the Open
Kitchen. This popular dining spot, located on West Morehead
Street, close to downtown and I-77, is one of Charlotte's
oldest and best-loved restaurants. Regular customers know
the Open Kitchen is a place to bring the whole gang, for
there's something on the menu for everyone.
As
soon as you enter the Open Kitchen, you know the cuisine
is Italian. The unmistakable aroma of Italian spices and
cheese permeates the dining rooms and your mouth starts
watering at the sights and smells.
What's
an Italian restaurant without red-checkered tablecloths?
The Open Kitchen has these and more. Italian flags fly from
the rooftop and ceiling beams, and the flag's colors of
red, white and green are found throughout the interior and
on the colorful outdoor awnings.
When
a restaurant has remained popular since 1952, you know it
has to be good! For over four decades the Open Kitchen has
been a Charlotte institution, one of its best-loved eating
spots. Owned by Alex Kokenes, the Open Kitchen has remained
in its original location -- a local landmark because it
was the first pizzeria and Italian restaurant in Charlotte!
Alex took over the restaurant operation when its founder,
his father Steve, died in 1983.
The
authentic European atmosphere will whet your appetite. Garlic
braids, Chianti bottles, red-checkered tablecloths and Italian
flags decorate the dining areas, adding to the experience
of real Italian cuisine.
